The Fat Ice (Zell am See, Austria)
What is it? Revived in 2019 by Ferdi Porsche, the event blends classic and modern car culture with stunt shows, skijoring, and music, celebrating "fun over speed" in the Alps. Organised next to Porsche’s showroom in its home (HoldCo) country of Austria, the event is organised adjacent to the aviation centre of Kaprun on the Zell am See lake (convenient for those arriving via helicopter to the helipad).
What does it symbolise? Freedom & Fun. The cars racing (and on display) range from Brabus and Bentleys (an entire line brought in from the UK just for the event) to Toyotas and Ford trucks expertly dragging along the pure white track. Money doesn’t necessarily buy performance - the focus is on the skills. The skills to maneeuver a speeding vehicle across icy tracks… add to that the skill set of the skier or snowboarder being pulled along - and the feeling is unanimous - conquering the tracks, or conquering the piste is achievable, with proper equipment, training and mindset - and it can feel glorious, liberating and FUN!
